Art Exhibits Showcase Work of Graduating Students

The Noel Fine Arts Center will host the BFA Exhibition for Art, Graphic Design and Interior Architecture on Friday, May 10, an annual event where graduating graphic design majors from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point present their work to the public.

“It’s an event that features work from graduating seniors from the Interior Architecture Department and the Department of Art and Design, and the Department of Art and Design features work from students graduating in the 2D and 3D emphasis areas, and also in the graphic design emphasis areas,” said John Smith, a professor of graphic design in the Department of Art and Design. “It’s an accumulation of all of the work that they’ve accomplished when they were students here at UWSP.”

According to Smith, this event serves as a valuable opportunity for graduating seniors to showcase their talents to prospective employers.

“There will be a lot of people attending who are professionals in the field, and they’re going to be looking at these students’ work to think about whether they’re interested in hiring them, so it’s a great networking opportunity,” Smith said.

Smith explained that the senior design show has a lot to offer to UWSP students as well.

“Any student that’s interested in graphic design, interior architecture or art, come on over. It’s going to be a really great event to get a sampling of all the work that gets done in those programs,” Smith said.

Sarah Ebert, a junior graphic design major, shared a similar opinion and likewise urged any interested students to attend the event.

“There’s going to be awesome designers and awesome art there, and it’s going to be really inspirational. I have a lot of friends going, and I want to see their work and be there to support them as they graduate,” Ebert said.

Bridgette Grzeski, a junior in the program, agreed.

“It’s a really good experience to find out what graphic design is all about, as well as how to prepare a portfolio and learn great interview questions and responses,” Grzeski said. “I’m personally excited because all of our seniors have amazing design projects. I’ve been lucky enough to see them being built in the lab, but I haven’t seen everyone’s completed designs, so it’s fun to question them and prepare them for future job interviews.”

Tessa Hoida, a senior whose work will be featured in the design show, is also excited.

“It’ll be a lot of fun. If you’re a designer, it’s really fun to see what you’ll be doing in the future. It’s a time where we get to celebrate all of the work we created during our time here,” Hoida said.

The senior design show will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Noel Fine Arts Center Courtyard.
