COFAC Dean Says Farewell

Jeff Morin, dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication, is leaving the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for a new position as president of the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design.

He has taught photojournalism and graphic design courses for more than 12 years.

“It was a tough choice,” Morin said. “Having been a dean for 10 years, I feel proud of what we’ve accomplished together and also know that someone will come in and succeed to a higher degree.”

He said what has surprised him the most is the unwavering support from the community.

“This has been such an easy job to do,” he said.

In the past three years, Morin has turned down at least one job offer per year to stay at UWSP.

“Nothing else had come along that was a better fit,” he said. “But this seemed like the right moment for a change.”

He said he continues to be more and more impressed with students.

“There is the excitement with this that comes along with anything new,” Morin said. “I’m excited to help out in every way I can and learn to call a new area home.”

Morin announced his resignation on Monday, May 4. Administration will now begin the process of looking for an interim replacement and conducting a nationwide search.

“Emotions run high on both ends,” Morin said. “I am looking forward to the prospects of something new, but am very sad to leave at the same time.”
