Throw In The Towel for Some Summer Fun

As the spring semester comes to a close, some students are looking forward to summer adventures.

Bill Steinke, junior biochemistry major, plans to camp and take a backpacking trip.

Steinke and his friend will camp in Peninsula State Park and spend the weekend sleeping under a fly trap and biking.

Steinke will then backpack by himself through Buckhorn State Park. He has been preparing by watching YouTube videos on solo backpacking and loading up on light-weight gear, so his backpack only weighs 2.6 pounds.

Andrew Schneyer, freshman water resources major, is looking forward to Summerfest in Milwaukee.

“I’m especially looking forward to seeing the Dirty Heads and Vance Joy perform,” Schneyer said. “I think concerts are a really good experience because it gives me the opportunity to see the bands that I really like perform live.”

Alex Gall, freshman wildlife ecology major, feels the best part of his summer will be attending Country USA.

“There were so many drunk people at CUSA last year,” Gall said. “I had fun with the craziness of the concert, but I was still safe at the same time. There are ways to have fun at CUSA without being a part of the craziness.”

Gall anticipates seeing headliners Eric Church, Tim McGraw and Miranda Lambert. He hopes to attend four of the five days of the festival.

“This year I’m most excited to see Eric Church because I’ve heard that he’s really good performing live,” Gall said. “I’ve been to Summerfest in the past, but I prefer CUSA because I am a fan of country music, so it is more of my scene.”
