Greek Life Receives Four Million Dollars

A donation of four million dollars has been made by Millennium Insurance to further develop Greek life on the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point campus.

This donation has gotten mixed reviews from UWSP students, faculty, staff and community members.

“Students in Greek life have high GPAs and seem to be more involved on campus compared to the rest of the student body and I believe they will know how to put the money to good use,” said Mark Fallon, president of Millennium Insurance .

Greek life provides a platform for individuals to grow and develop themselves. Millennium Insurance sees this potential and decided to distribute the four million dollars into various fraternities and sororities.

A total of four fraternities and sororities on campus will receive portions of the donation which will be allocated for scholarships, dues, conferences and philanthropic use.

“Since Greek life is receiving four million dollars, I am now more interested in joining the Greek life because they might not have charge dues,” said Jimmy Forrigan, freshman ramen consumption major.

Each president of the fraternity and sorority was interviewed to showcase their five-year plan to Millennium Insurance. The focus was to talk about how they will budget the large sum of money they are about to receive and what the usage will be.

After a week of deliberation, Phi Sigma Phi fraternity and Sigma Delta Rho sorority were to receive the highest amount of the four million dollars.

Phi Sigma Phi discussed their plans promote themselves philanthropically and help debunk the myths about Greek life. As for Sigma Delta Rho, they discussed their continuous efforts to recruit more diverse and unique individuals and help educate others about the positive aspects of Greek life.

“I am excited for Phi Sigma Phi to receive part of the four million dollars. This will help the fraternity to grow and develop into a much larger organization on campus,” said Troy Troy, co-founder and former president of Phi Sigma Phi fraternity.

Time will only tell how each of these fraternities and sororities will use their funds. Millennium Insurance has not put in place restrictive limits.

“Sigma Delta Rho is a wonderful sorority to be a part of, especially since you get to meet strong and diverse females who want to help each other grow and build a sisterhood,” said Marian Fun, junior special education major and member of Sigma Delta Rho sorority.
