Department of Theatre and Dance Hires New Instructors

During the spring semester of 2023, the Department of Theatre and Dance began their journey of hiring new faculty. There were multiple slots to fill, including two acting instructor positions, as well as a lighting and sound designer position.
UWSP’s Department of Theatre and Dance hired two new teachers, Dana Dancho and Greg Pragel, to fill vacant faculty positions beginning in the fall semester of 2023.
A faculty-led selection committee encouraged students to give feedback on the candidates. Students attended demonstration classes and interviews to form their own opinions on the candidates.
After weeks of interviews and classes, the selection committee convened to make a decision, which was officially announced in August.
Dana Dancho was hired as the assistant professor of acting. Greg Pragel returned to UWSP, this time as a formally-appointed lecturer in acting. Pragel had previously filled in for the lecturer position when it unexpectedly became vacant at the start of the 2023 spring semester.
When the job for assistant professor of acting was posted, Dancho said she did research on UWSP. She said the school seemed like a very good place to be because of the established programs with proven track records.
“I thought that I would be a good fit,” said Dancho. “I want to help the students to the best of my ability.”
She said that her goal as a professor is to give students a sense of confidence and an excitement to work.
Pragel said that he felt he could be of benefit to a department in need of professors. Having studied at the Stella Adler School of Acting and being a working professional in the theatre industry, Pragel brings the techniques he has learned in his education and career to the students at UWSP.
Pragel said he believes that everything you learn in your time at school connects– from dance lessons to voice lessons.
“Be a sponge,” said Pragel. “Take in everything that you can.”
