During intermission, a costume contest allowed audience members to participate and walk the runway. Fan favorites included Pearl from the movie Pearl, and a character from Five Nights at Freddy’s.

Host Harysun, a UWSP alum and drag performer, was thrilled to be back.

“I’m an alum, so to come back to my alma mater means a lot to me,” Harysun said. “I’m so excited to inspire new students.”

HellaQueen inspires all to be authentically themselves. Drag Queen Amber Jewel said, “it gives the performers an opportunity to express themselves, but also gives the viewers an opportunity to come and immerse themselves into the LGTBQ+ community.”

“I just find it so fun,” said student Francis Schwanke. “It encourages me to be more myself.”

Sarah Ashley, a student who helped organize the first HellaQueen, said, “HellaQueen came after the pandemic; we wanted to relaunch a drag show on campus.”

HellaQueen has become a Stevens Point tradition.

“In 50 years from now, I hope that I can come back and still see HellaQueen,” said Ashley.

All profits from this event went to the QRC, helping to benefit students by providing resources and scholarships.

The name for next year’s event has already been released: HellaQueen 4: Let the bodies hit the floor, which will have a Y2K theme.

HellaQueen 3 celebrated Halloween with an incredible lineup of performers, fostering community and creativity.
