UWSP’s Child Learning and Care Center Hosts Art Show for Week of the Young Child
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Child Learning and Care Center is celebrating the Week of the Young Child April 13-17. It will hold its annual art show April 16 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Dreyfus University Center.
UCLCC has hosted its art show for 14 years. This year it will be hosted in the DUC with hopes that UWSP students, faculty and community members will attend the event.

“We hope that this will get our little area out there,” said Erin Hansen, a provider in the bunny room for 2–3-year-olds. “We want community members and the campus to come and see it [the art show].”
All showcased art is made by children attending UCLCC. Every child works with clay, creates a self-portrait, and every classroom creates more artwork of its own.

“I think there is such a big art population on this campus that I think it would be really cool to incorporate the younger ages of art too,” said Elise Griffin, a care provider in the Rainbow room for 4-5-year-olds.
Griffin said, “The biggest thing is to celebrate art and celebrate the children’s work and the learning that is shown through all of the artwork they have created.”
UCLCC wants the community to know who they are as a center and where they are located. Its end goal is to reconnect with the UWSP campus and community.
The National Association for the Education of Young Children dedicates a week every year in April to celebrate the Week of the Young Child. Each center decides how to celebrate the week’s themes.
During the Week of the Young Child, UCLCC will celebrate each day with a different activity. Music Monday, April 13, will invite families to play a variety of musical instruments with the children, and Tasty Tuesday, April 14, will feature snacks brought by each classroom.
On Work Together Wednesday, April 15, children will bring a favorite book from home and read with a buddy. Artsy Thursday, April 16, will host the center’s annual art show in the DUC concourse, showcasing artwork created curing the 2025-26 school year.
“The kids take pride in it,” said Hansen. “It’s a big deal.”
School Family Friday, April 17, will include a walk around the UWSP campus followed by an ice cream social.
On School Family Friday, children and staff will wear UCLCC school attire and walk around the UWSP campus. Afterwards, they will have an ice cream social.
“Sometimes I feel like people don’t come over here, and I think it would be nice to get the word out about UCLCC,” said Hansen.
