From April 21-27, the Office of Sustainability is hosting a variety of on-campus events for earth week to promote environmental awareness and eco-friendly practices.
Earth week 2025 will feature a wide range of on-campus events, activities and speakers. This year’s theme is Healthy Earth, Healthy Pointers.
While most of the events will be open to all who show up, some will require students to sign up ahead of time through the UWSP website. Getting involved with events through SPIN will also allow students to enter a drawing for various undisclosed prizes.
“All names will be entered into a pool for the winners” says Audrey Webster, this year’s events coordinator. “In SPIN we have a tag, hashtag earthweek2025, where clubs will have their events posted. That’s how we’re going to do the prizes.”
“Fit rec is doing a lot of active events” says Anna Menominee, the conservation & community planning major who is this year’s earth week coordinator. “They’re going to do a yoga class, a cycling class, there’s going to be a rock wall climbing competition, a lot of cool things to get people active and healthy and also to be mindful of the planet and our environment.”
Another event that happened is the annual Eco-Fair, with this year’s theme being Stories of the Earth. This event had clubs and outside organizations tabling as well as multiple speakers in the environmental field.
“The Student Athletic Advisory Committee will be hosting Soles4Shoes, which is donating shoes at three different locations; the DUC, Debot, and Champions Hall,” says Weber.
“Some of the events are all week long, such as the Allen Fitness Center having a power hour,” says Weber. This power hour will be from Noon to 1 PM. The fitness center will be without electricity for the duration.
“It is necessary and needed for us to continue to host and promote sustainability and [protect] the earth,” said Weber.
